GenTail
Energy Planning solution for Generation Companies and their related trading activities
With the introduction of the Electricity Market Exchange, the Generation Companies are redesigning their processes and the related IT systems in order to improve the forecasting and planning of the power generation in the short, medium and long term.
The complexity and the huge number of parameters impacting on the generation capacity’s 15-minute forecasting for the day after , are manageable only through a modular and scalable ICT solution.
Generation Companies have to select the right partner to develop and integrate architectures in order to support the generation planning and trading.
e-utile is recognized by the main operators as a reliable partner in this area thanks to the deep process knowledge acquired through several experiences and consulting activities. Moreover, e-utile has designed and implemented GenTail, a dedicated solution to reduce time and risks implementation.
GenTail enables Generation Companies to increase the overall efficiency in the Generation using different energy sources, including renewables, and to maximize the trading activities profitability.
GenTail optimizes the production plans of each plant as well as the whole park. Furthermore, it manages the bidding and settlement processes involving different Market Roles (the Transmission grid operator company and the System Operator).
Gentail is providing the following modules:
- Scheduling & Operation

- Fuel Planning
- Bidding Support System
- Settlement
Scheduling & Operation
according to the sales strategy, defines the optimal long/medium/short term plans, the available resources (fuel) and the capacity for each generation units. Simulation functionalities enable the selection of the best case scenarios in order to define the proposal phase for the Power Exchange Electricity Market. During the execution day, plans can be changed due to the Balancing orders issued by the System Operator. Such changes are managed and tracked in conjunction with the ancillary services.
Fuel Planning
supports the definition of the best possible combination of resources to be used for the whole generation (market, internal use, bilateral contracts, etc). The module considers several specific parameters for each unit. Among them, it accounts for the costs of the different fuels and CO2 emission. In addition to that, the Utility could define other variables to obtain the final scenario.
Bidding Support System
is designed to automate data flows to/from the Energy Market, the Overseas Markets, etc. Considering different parameters (time periods, prices, quantities, etc.) it generates the strategic offers to purchase and to sell electricity in different markets (Day ahead market, intra-day market and balance market).
Settlement
the main goal of the settlement module is to support user in evaluating and managing the billing process. It enables the determination and analysis of the imbalances (pre-settlement), the creation of the comparison bill to evaluate the imbalances impacts (scenario analysis) and the reconciliation between the economic values in order to reach a settlement on the total amount to be billed.
